April, 2024

Busy month - big news! Dive in!

SHAMELESS PRIDE FOR MY DOGS (or good news about me)!

We did it! Our small group persisted through 15 months of roadblocks and red tape, but in April, we finally launched a long overdue low cost spay/neuter opportunity for Berkeley County SC. I'll be posting about it often on my socials, I'm sure, so feel free to follow along - the program site is at LowcountryPetFixers.org and you can access our Facebook from there as well. We have completed our first application cycle and will be issuing 20 vouchers in May for upcoming spay/neuter appointments. I think we're all pretty proud of our efforts and couldn't be more grateful to my two counterparts for sticking it out so we could make it to the finish line!

I'm re-sharing my article on the therapeutic value of mushrooms for our pets' health (page 12). As someone who approaches the most holistic path possible for my pets' well-being, I promise I wouldn't steer you wrong. Take a look. Thanks, as always, to Lowcountry Dog Magazine for the opportunity to share this kind of information with loving pet parents. Questions? Let me know - and if you decide you may want to give mushrooms a try, this is the best resource I have found: Real Mushrooms and it's where I order mushrooms for Roux and Gracie.

On a sad note, we said goodbye to some very good dog friends this month. RIP Hope, Jaxson and Meri <3 News of these sad passings always fills me with anxiety and makes me hug Roux and Gracie just a little tighter.

EVENTS

Dorchester Paws asked if I would accompany them to a shoot with the three-time champion minor league Charleston River Dogs (affiliated with MLB Tampa Bay Rays) in early April - of course, I said yes! The dogs attending met some players, stood in for some official new season promo photos and then we had an opportunity to wander the park and snap a few more on our own. We didn't have access to the players for our own photos (bummer...) and it sure was HOT, but the dogs had a fun afternoon away from the shelter and, for me, hanging with shelter dogs is always a good day.

I'll be shooting for my friends at Hallie Hill Animal Sanctuary at their upcoming fundraiser (Animals, Art and Automobiles), on Mother's Day at Charlestowne Landing. So if you're looking for something fun to do on May 12, here you go!

CLIENT SESSIONS

Florida trip aside for some family birthday activities, I put a lot of mileage on my car in April, shooting at so many local favorite spots, as well as my studio! But clients racked up miles too, as I had one guest drive up from Beaufort with her beautiful shepherd best-boy for a downtown session; and another sweet family came to my studio from the Florence SC area with their two adorable seniors (who will be my very special Mother's Day story post)! A few representative photos from April follow.

SHELTERS/RESCUES

My shelter work now totals 176 adoptables through the end of April (April was all about Charleston Animal Society and Dorchester Paws). Please adopt or foster if you can. This isn't just a lowcountry issue - it's a national crisis.

LOCAL BUSINESS PLUG!

I have a small business project underway with Untamed Pet Company and can't wait to see where they go! They are a subscription service but here's the twist: unlike some others, they only curate the healthiest treats and chews for your pets!!! No overseas junk or cheap rubber toys or five minutes of playtime. Nope! Even their packing peanuts are vegan and fully digestible! They are also launching a safe harness in addition to their current product line. These well-made harnesses fit securely and the side tags can be personalized with your pet's name. Check out their site or follow their socials as they have wonderful things in the works for our pets. You can also hit their site and subscribe to save on your ordering. You'll thank me later.

REMINDERS - GENERAL

My current event schedule is always posted on this page as well as my main page. If you don't feel like checking back from time to time, you can subscribe to the mailing list. I only send ONE email per month (and sometimes, not even that!). You can unsubscribe at any time, and I never sell your information to partners or third parties.

My session calendar does fill quickly and I do encourage reserving your space about 3-4 weeks out from when you want your session. This allows you the most opportunity to secure a preferred date/time of day and to have sufficient time for grooming appointments, etc. As of 5/8/24 my next available weekend session slot is the morning of 6/8/24, then there is one space open in mid-June. Reminder, I don't shoot outdoors in SC in July and August so those months are studio sessions ONLY. Scheduling a rain date is also recommended at the time we reserve your session (no charge to hold the 2nd date).
